Vice Chairman of Hendrick Motorsports Jeff Gordon recently shared his thoughts on the controversial incidents that took place in the Xfinity 500 playoff race at Martinsville Speedway. HMS' original equipment manufacturer(OEM) Chevrolet allegedly tried to manipulate the outcome of the race for personal gain.

In the final stage at Martinsville, Brad Keselowski lost several positions, falling out of the top ten. While trying to advance, he encountered Ross Chastain and Austin Dillon, who supposedly blocked his #6 Ford on the inside line. The two Chevrolet drivers allegedly held their positions despite having a pace advantage, effectively supporting HMS driver William Byron, the top Chevrolet driver with a strong shot at making the Championship 4.

Moreover, JGR driver Christopher Bell was sanctioned a penalty by NASCAR after the race ended for a wall ride incident, similar to what Ross Chastain had executed at Martinsville in 2022.

Following the end of the race, four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon recently expressed his views on the controversy-filled race at Martinsville.

"I don't want to be in the middle of controversy. That was a unique set of circumstances the way that race was unfolding and I think we're all kind of in disbelief. But the only thing if I were to say, what seemed to me to be pretty clear, and I guess that's the way NASCAR looked at it too was that they made a rule against riding the wall like that. If it's going to advance positions or prevent you from losing positions, and that's what did happen." Jeff Gordon said via Motorsports on NBC

"You try to play out every scenario you possibly can. You work with your OEM teammates to try to make your cars as fast as they can be, as well as try to find ways to work together to help your outcome so when those two guys(Chastain and Dillon) were behind us, I felt pretty confident that they were going to stay there but you don't know the #24 was struggling. He was driving his butt off and was able to stay ahead of them," he added

The penalty on Christopher Bell by NASCAR paved the way for Jeff Gordon's #24 driver, William Byron, to continue his playoff run. Meanwhile, Byron's HMS teammates Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson were eliminated from the playoffs.

"It was clear what was going on": Christopher Bell gives his take on Jeff Gordon’s driver fiasco

Joe Gibbs Racing's #20 driver Christopher Bell recently reflected on the Chevrolet controversy involving Jeff Gordon's HMS driver William Byron in the Xfinity 500 at Martinsville Speedway. Bell failed to qualify for championship 4 after NASCAR sanctioned a penalty against him after the race ended.

In a post-race interview, the Oklahoma native spoke with media personnel, where he said:

"Yeah, I mean, it was clear what was going on, you know, the #24(William Byron) came back to me probably a straightaway or something, but, you know, I just wasn't meant to be today and wasn't meant to be this year. And we accomplished a lot this year and I'm proud of that. So just keep building on it." (via X)

Moreover, Bell was asked whether the penalty sanctioned on him was fair, following his wall ride maneuver. He refused to express his opinion on the penalty and said:

"I'm gonna keep my mouth shut"

However, keeping the spirit of sportsmanship alive, Christopher Bell was witnessed congratulating Byron for advancing to the Championship 4.
