Jeffrey Earnhardt once explained why he doesn't drive for the JR Motorsports co-owner Dale Earnhardt Jr. in the Xfinity Series. Jeffrey, NASCAR Hall of Famer Dale Jr.'s nephew, currently competes part-time in the Xfinity Series driving the #26 Toyota for Sam Hunt Racing.
In a 2018 interview with Daryl Motte, Jeffrey explained how he wanted to earn his ride and work hard to get it like the seven-time Cup Series champion and his grandfather Dale Earnhardt Sr. He also spoke about why he doesn't drive for JRM, one of the most successful Xfinity Series teams, with a simple hand gesture.
"It's money. I mean, I like working hard for what I got and to have just someone give me a ride that'd be cool. But I'm just not gonna go begging for a ride, you know, work hard and earn just like my grandfather did," Jeffrey Earnhardt said via NASCAR on Fox.
Jeffrey Earnhardt is a fourth-generation NASCAR driver from the Earnhardt lineage. He is the son of NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt's eldest son, Kerry Earnhardt. The 35-year-old started his racing career on the dirt tracks of Wythe Raceway in Virginia and competed briefly for Dale Earnhardt Inc. in the ARCA Menards Series East in 2007.
"We always get back up and keep fighting" - Jeffrey Earnhardt once drew a parallel from MMA into his racing career with a strong message
Jeffrey Earnhardt, the grandson of legendary NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Sr., discussed how he derived his motivation to never back down in his racing career while prepping for his amateur MMA fight.
In 2012, the Mooresville, North Carolina native competed in an amateur MMA fight. He secured his first and only mixed martial arts victory at Coyote Joe's in Charlotte, NC.
In an episode of the Dirty Mo Media podcast, Jeffrey said:
"We've been knocked down plenty of times but we always get back up and we keep fighting. And, you know, it's something, obviously, I have a huge passion to race. I love it and I tell everybody it's an addiction that you get hooked to with adrenaline rush of just going out there and being competitive." [4:45]
"But, you know, if you want it bad enough you'll figure it out. And yes, I feel like that's with anything in life. If you want it bad enough there's ways to figure it out you just got to go do it," Jeffrey added.
Dale Jr.'s nephew, Jeffrey, has competed for several racing teams for over a decade in the stock-car racing series. He last competed in six races for Sam Hunt Racing in the Xfinity Series and had a best finish of P8 in the spring Atlanta Motor Speedway race.
