Christopher Bell’s wall-riding move at Martinsville Speedway last week has grabbed the attention of two-time Cup Series champion, Kyle Busch. So much so, that the veteran racer thinks that he might replicate the move in his upcoming race at Phoenix Raceway.

Kyle Busch, driver of the No. 8 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing, is on the verge of breaking his streak of winning at least one race every season for the past nineteen years. His last win came at the World Wide Technology Raceway on June 4, 2023.

Busch was asked by a reporter if he had a "hail mary" up his sleeve to keep his winning streak alive.

“How many laps is the race? 312? I'm gonna wall ride for 312 (laps). And that will save it and I will win,” the 39-year-old replied as the reporters joined in a round of laughter.

“But realistically, no...I mean, it's all about how good are you (and) can you keep yourself close enough to the front and have a shot,” Busch added.

As of now, Kyle Busch sits 20th in the driver standings with 750 points to his name. In 35 starts, he has led 229 laps and amassed five top-5s and 10 top-10s. His best performance this year has been a pair of runner-up finishes at Darlington Raceway and Daytona International Speedway, home to the crown jewel Daytona 500.

Kyle Busch responds to “overzealous” fans demanding his retirement

Kyle Busch is one of the winningest drivers in NASCAR. His 63 wins in the Cup Series are the most among active drivers. Busch also holds the records for the most wins in the Xfinity Series (102) and the Truck Series (66).

However, 2024 has been anything but a stellar season for the Las Vegas native. He has been close to the win on several occasions but has fallen short every time. With that said, some fans feel like the 39-year-old driver should retire.

“Generally speaking, I probably actually agree a lot of times with the fans,” Kyle Busch said in an exclusive interview with The Athletic. “Sometimes they get a little overzealous on some things. But on-track product, commercial times, things like that… I agree with a lot of the stuff they say.”

Busch continued:

“And to then have fans tell you you’re washed up and you can’t do it and you should retire and you should just get out of it? I’m like, “Wow, OK, cool.” Maybe.”

Kyle Busch now has just one shot to deliver a win. The good news is that Busch has been quite strong at Phoenix. In 38 starts at the mile-long short track in Avondale, Arizona, he amassed three wins, eight top-5s, and 14 top-10s. That being said, will the Chevy star be able to keep his streak alive? Only time will tell.
