NASCAR driver Chase Briscoe recently spoke about his situation in the 2024 playoffs. Although Briscoe is 6 points above the Round of 12 cut-off line, the lead is not substantial enough to keep him in the playoffs. Moreover, JGR driver Martin Truex Jr., who is being replaced by Briscoe next season, is battling for a spot in the Round of 12 following underwhelming results in the first two races.

Chase Briscoe, driver of the #14 Ford Mustang Dark Horse for SHR, clinched his spot in the 2024 playoffs after winning the final regular season race at Darlington Raceway. As Stewart Haas Racing has announced his exit from the sport, Briscoe was left without a seat in the 2025 season. However, earlier this year, Joe Gibbs Racing announced the Indiana native as a replacement for the retiring veteran Martin Truex Jr.

The former ARCA Series champion was recently asked how he was feeling about having to battle Truex Jr. for a spot in the round of 12, considering he will be replacing him in the #19 Toyota at JGR. He said (via Bob Pockrass on X):

"It's just kind of ironic right? The stories kind of write themselves I feel like at this point. Yeah, I mean It is kind of odd I guess that, you know, us making is probably going to knock out a Gibbs car more than likely," he said.
"My job is to drive the #14 for Stewart Haas Racing and you know that at the end of the day, that's all I'm really worried about right now. I'm not worried about the #19 team or Joe Gibbs Racing or anything like that. If it ends up knocking the #19 out, I apologize to those guys, but yeah I'm doing what's best for me and my team right now," Briscoe added.

Chase Briscoe currently sits in P11 on the standings, while Martin Truex Jr. is in P15, 14 points below the cut-off line. Truex, a former Cup Series champion, looks to finish his career on a high note by capturing another title. However, Briscoe would have similar aspirations for his team SHR, who are in their final season in the sport.

Chase Briscoe looking to emulate his Watkins Glen playoff resurrection run at Bristol

Although a top-ten finish was a good result for him, Briscoe felt he had a race-winning car. In an interview with Bob Pockrass, he said (via X):

"It's nerve-wracking at the end. [...] One thing I saw said plus twelve earnings and plus six, I mean the points are gonna be what they are, right? We just have to go and do what we can do. If we go there and execute all day long, Bristol is a really good racetrack. I feel like for us as a company and even myself as a driver, it's not about a track, you just got to survive the chaos," Briscoe said.
