"I don't want to be so serious already" - Joey Logano speaks about shielding son Hudson from legacy expectations

Three-time Cup Series champion Joey Logano recently talked about his family and how he does not want to push his six-year-old son into racing.

On the latest episode of "Kenny Wallace Conversation," Logano shared the interests of his three children with wife, Brittany Baca. Their daughter Emilia is only two-years-old but his middle son, Jameson is curious about animals. While their oldest son, Hudson is into cars.

"I'm in my shop right now, and he's [Hudson] behind me downstairs working on his racing car. He just wants to do anything with wheels; that's his thing. I don't know if he wants to race or not, he just wants to drive. So, he's six, and I'm okay with that. Dad's not going to push him," Joey Logano said. (08:15)

He further reflected on his simple childhood and said that he wants Hudson to grow up without the pressure of living up to his legacy.

"If he does decide to race, everyone will decide to do it. I don't want them to be held at a different standard. I know it's going to happen because they're my kid, right?... Like, I was Tom Logano's kid. We didn’t do anything about racing. We’re just having fun. I’m six-years-old, I’m having fun. That’s all it’s about. I hate it. I don’t want it to be so serious already." (10:06 onwards)

Logano won his third championship this year. After a tough regular season, the Penske driver performed well in the playoffs and won three races to claim the title at Phoenix Raceway.

However, some fans have criticized him and the current playoff system for being unfair to other drivers who had better overall performances in the 2024 season.

In the same conversation, Joey Logano contemplated life and said that racing would not last forever. He pointed out the materialism of trophies and said he would rather focus on the people in his life who are most important.

"At the end of the day, racing will be here and then it’s going to go. And no matter how many championships I got, it will go away and I will be forgotten. It’s just life. And at the end of the day, what are you going to have? People. That’s all you got is those relationships that you’ve built and so I cherish those things more than the trophies because the trophies are great, but at the end of the day, they’re just a piece of metal," Joey Logano said. Logano is one of only 10 drivers to have won the Cup Series championships three or more times.
