Brad Keselowski touched upon his Michigan International Speedway Cup race penalty, a punishment that ruined all his good work on Sunday at the FireKeepers Casino 400 in Brooklyn, Michigan. Speaking about this, Keselowski stated that he was disappointed because of the penalty and the pit stall, which could have been better.
Keselowski finished his race in 10th place after starting from 27th. He methodically improved to 21st place in Stage 1, but he was down multiple places after an early stop and then had to return to pit road again to top off fuel.
This was combined with a speeding penalty, which put him in 25th place by the end of Stage 2. However, Keselowski managed to gain some places in the final stage restart and was on his way to a strong finish. Ultimately, he registered 10th place behind teammate Ryan Preece and ahead of Legacy Motor Club's Erik Jones.
“We had a really good car. I felt like we had a top two or three car and just didn’t get to see it through. I’m really disappointed. We kind of crushed ourselves on pit road with the speeding penalty and then having to go around the 45 and the 71. Every time we pitted we would lose a lot of spots," Keselowski said. (Via NBC)
"It wasn’t the pit crew’s fault, we just needed a better pit stall. I’m not really sure on the speeding penalty. I felt I was way slow, so getting called fast didn’t really add up, but we had the speed to do a lot more than we did today and I’m disappointed to not get that. Still, we’re reasonably happy with a top 10," the RFK driver added.
The Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing, co-owned by Brad Keselowski, had an impressive day at Brooklyn, Michigan, as all three drivers registered top 10 finishes. Besides the #6 driver's 10th-place finish, Preece finished in ninth, while Chris Buescher came home in second place, behind runner Denny Hamlin, and ahead of JGR's Ty Gibbs.
