Ahead of the Viva Mexico 250 race, Katherine Legge had a hilarious reaction to the question about the change of response from the fans compared to her last time racing out at Phoenix Raceway. She jokingly revealed that she was asked not to take down Daniel Suarez while driving in the upcoming NASCAR Cup race in Mexico City during an interview.

NASCAR is set to accomplish something that has never been done before. The Cup Series will host a points-paying race outside the USA at Mexico City's Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez on Sunday, June 15. Immediately, drivers and teams are faced with challenges with the altitude as the circuit is higher than 7,200 feet in elevation.

They will also have to deal with a technical 2.42-mile 17-turn layout. For the 100-lap sprint, the pole position is occupied by Shane van Gisbergen of Trackhouse Racing, and he will be accompanied by Ryan Preece of RFK Racing in chasing down the field.

Katherine Leggem, who will start the race from the 37th position, said while speaking to Speed Freaks:

"I think there's a little bit more camaraderie just because we're all traveling to and from the hotel and the airport and stuff together so I haven't felt any hostility or I think everybody's been super nice but they're all genuinely nice people whether they're friends or they're in their little cliques or not."
"I've had help from a handful of drivers and I appreciate them and they're acceptance of this new English girl coming in and disrupting everything and I was told don't take Suarez out this time though."

Katherine Legge has established herself as a ground-breaking British Racing driver, demonstrated versatility and broken into different types of racing, and become a true trailblazer. In 2005, Legge made history in the 2005 Toyota Atlantic Championship by becoming the first woman to win a major open-wheel race in North America.

Legge made her first appearance in NASCAR in 2018, by making her Xfinity Series debut with JD Motorsports, as well as running at Road America and Richmond Raceway. In 2025, she qualified for both the Xfinity Series race at Rockingham and Talladega. The British driver made her NASCAR debut at Phoenix, where she drove the #78 for Live Fast Motorsports.

Katherine Legge not bowing down from NASCAR challenge despite turbulent start

Katherine Legge, a veteran of IndyCar and global endurance racing, has openly reflected on her challenging transition into NASCAR during the 2025 season. Despite her extensive motorsport background, Legge admitted that adapting to NASCAR’s unique demands has been tougher than she anticipated.

After a turbulent Cup Series debut at Phoenix Raceway, which was marred by incidents including contact with Daniel Suarez, and subsequent misfortunes at Rockingham and Talladega—where she led a lap before being caught in a multi-car crash—Legge candidly stated via NASCAR.com,

"I thought that I was a lot better than I am. I have no doubt that I'll get there. But how quickly? I thought I would drive the car a couple of times and then be up at the sharp end, but it's taking a little longer than I anticipated."

Throughout her NASCAR journey, Katherine Legge has faced criticism and adversity, but she insists that her performance—not her gender—defines her as a competitor.
