Kyle Busch is feeling positive about winning a speedway race soon after a solid performance at the Atlanta Cup race last Sunday.
Busch led laps toward the end of the first playoff race this season but he did not get the push needed to win. Busch is one of three active NASCAR drivers with the most wins at Atlanta Motor Speedway. However, the Richard Childress Racing driver is still looking for his first win of the season.
Busch shared an Instagram post after a top-10 finish in Atlanta about feeling confident in winning a race as he heads to the next tracks. He was the only driver not in the playoffs to finish in the top 10 at the Quaker State 400.
"Ran up front and led laps there towards the end. Just didn’t get the pushes we needed. Maybe one of these days when I’m leading a speedway race it can be at the 🏁" Busch wrote.
Kyle Busch had only six top-10 finishes in the first 22 races this year. However, in the last five races, he has had just one finish outside the top 10 and three in the top five.
Busch was also close to winning at the Coke Zero Sugar 400 and Cook Out Southern 500. He finished just one spot short in both races.
"Just didn't execute well enough" - Kyle Busch on missing playoffs this year
Kyle Busch missed the playoffs for the first time in 12 years this season. After the Atlanta race, Busch said in an interview that they tried many things during the season but most did not work.
"Just didn't execute well enough and have the pace that we needed to through the summer, crashed a lot, and so that just kind of self-eliminated us. I think we did enough experimenting throughout the year on things that didn’t work. So it seems like we’ve kind of gotten a little bit of a path towards what we think does work,” Busch said.
When asked if he thought he would make the playoffs in the last two races, Busch said he was hopeful, especially at Daytona. He felt he had a good chance to win after avoiding all the crashes.
At Darlington, he missed the playoffs by just 0.361 seconds behind race winner Chase Briscoe.
“If I don’t get this, then life’s really not on my side,” he added.
39-year-old Busch has won at least one race every year for the past 19 seasons. He does not want that streak to end and has 10 races left in the season to continue his winning run.
