NASCAR driver Kyle Busch thinks it’s going to be difficult to outshine a handful of drivers on road courses versus on ovals. During a recent interview, the two-time Cup Series champion named six fellow competitors who he thinks could be threats at NASCAR’s street circuits.

Busch’s performance at the Circuit of The Americas (COTA), which hosted the only road course race of the 2025 season so far, yielded a P5 finish. However, in his previous three road races (Charlotte ROVAL, Watkins Glen International, and Sonoma Raceway), the Las Vegas native did not finish higher than 12th.

Speaking about his competition on the track, Busch said,

“There’s a lot of really good guys that run really well at road courses as well,” Kyle Busch said (as quoted by Speedway Digest). “You’ve got Shane van Gisbergen that’s going to be there, AJ Allmendinger that’s going be there. Tyler Reddick is always really fast at those places. Ty Gibbs is fast. Christopher Bell has been fast. So, now you’re already talking about seventh place, right? William Byron as well, he’s been fast at those places.“

Kyle Busch’s upcoming road race, the Grant Park 165 in Chicago, is scheduled for Sunday, July 6. Hendrick Motorsports driver Alex Bowman happens to be the defending winner of the event. Fans can watch the race on TNT Sports, 2 pm ET onwards, or listen to its radio coverage on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

For now, the Chevy icon has his eyes set on tomorrow’s (Sunday, June 15) race, the Viva Mexico 250 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez. The 100-lap event will stream live on Amazon Prime Video, with exclusive radio updates on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

Denny Hamlin reflects on breaking Kyle Busch’s NASCAR record with Joe Gibbs Racing

Last Sunday, Denny Hamlin won the FireKeepers Casino 400 at Michigan International Speedway, marking his 57th career victory in the NASCAR Cup Series. With that, he became the 10th driver to win a race just one week after making his 700th series start. But there’s more.

With his 57th career win, Denny Hamlin shattered Kyle Busch’s record at Joe Gibbs Racing. The two used to be teammates at the organization in the past. Reflecting on the same on his Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin said,

“It was great to break that tie with Kyle. Obviously, he had been the most successful JGR driver for quite some time. Feels great. This is just one of the top organizations in NASCAR. You’ve got the big three of Hendrick, Penske and Gibbs. To be the winningest at one of those is very meaningful. They gave me my opportunity when I was just a Late Model driver.”

Hamlin has been with Joe Gibbs Racing for two decades now. Kyle Busch was the driver of the team’s No. 18 car before moving to Richard Childress Racing at the start of the 2024 season.
