Kyle Busch bagged a P8 last Sunday (June 8) at Michigan International Speedway, ending his six-race streak without a single top-10 finish. However, the Richard Childress Racing driver had wanted more.
Busch is currently in his third year driving the No. 8 Chevy Camaro for the North Carolina-based outfit in the NASCAR Cup Series. A win is all he needs to get in the playoffs. However, he hasn’t won since June 4, 2023.
During a post-race interview (quoted by NBC Sports), the two-time Cup Series champion reflected on his day at Michigan and said:
“Solid weekend for this Chevrolet team. Qualifying second was a positive and it helped to start the race with clean air. We struggled with a lack of grip and speed in the race, but crew chief Randall Burnett did a good job with adjustments. We wanted more but to come out of here with a top-10 finish, we’ll take what we got.”
Kyle Busch is the winningest driver in not just the Cup Series; he also holds the record for most wins in the Xfinity (102) and Craftsman Truck Series (67). He has a combined 232 wins across all three national series.
Fifteen races in this season, Busch sits 15th in the driver standings with one top-five, five top-10s, and 322 points to his name. His next race, the Viva Mexico 250, is scheduled for this coming Sunday, June 15, at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in Mexico City.
The series has never held a point-paying race outside of the US in the last 67 years. Fans can watch the event live on Prime Video from 3 p.m. ET onwards or listen to its radio coverage on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
Kyle Busch to stay at Richard Childress Racing through 2026
Kyle Busch hasn’t won in quite some time, and so, some fans thought that Richard Childress Racing could be parting ways with the Las Vegas native ahead of the 2026 season. But that is not going to happen.
During the sport’s visit to Charlotte Motor Speedway last month, it was announced that Busch would be driving the No. 8 car through the remainder of 2025 as well as the entire 2026 season. The same was confirmed by team president Mike Verlander.
Needless to say, Kyle Busch was elated. Reflecting on the extension, he said in a statement (quoted by NASCAR):
“I give a lot of credit to Richard (Childress) and him believing in me and giving me the opportunity to be able to come over here and have a chance to drive his car. So for me, rewarding him with that and having the success on the racetrack is paramount.”
Since joining Richard Childress Racing, Kyle Busch has amassed three Cup Series wins, 16 top-fives, and 31 top-10s. Today, he ranks ninth in all-time wins and first among the current series drivers.
