The controversial last-lap move by Austin Dillon in the Cook Out 400 race at Richmond last weekend is still a topic of discussion in NASCAR. Now, NASCAR legend Kyle Petty has shared his opinion on the tussle between Joey Logano and Dillon.
After a clean getaway at the first and only overtime restart during the race, the two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Logano was looking for a clean win. However, Dillon's move on the penultimate corner wrecked his chances of victory. Along with Logano, Dillon also tagged Denny Hamlin, sending him out of contention for the win as well. This move received a lot of criticism from drivers, critics, and fans alike.
However, former NASCAR racer and current commentator Kyle Petty shared a neutral opinion about the incident. During a recent podcast appearance, Petty speculated about why the incident took place and also highlighted that both Logano and Hamlin have carried out such moves in the past.
"You got to do something drastic and we saw him do something drastic. He (Dillon) comes from four or five car lengths back going into turn three on the final lap. He gets into Joey Logano and spins him," Petty commented, explaining Dillon's last-lap move (0:39 onwards).
"Don't whine, Joey Logano. We've seen you do it before. Denny Hamlin, he can't say much either. They've done the same thing," he added (0:51 onwards).

"He messed up too" - NASCAR analyst claims Joey Logano deserves to be penalized as well after Richmond race
After the controversial last-lap incident between Joey Logano and Austin Dillon at Richmond Raceway, several fans demanded NASCAR officials take action against the latter. However, renowned motorsports commentator Eric Estepp believes Logano deserves a penalty for his post-race shenanigans in the pit lane.
Snatching the win from both Logano and Denny Hamlin, the Richard Childress Racing driver was on his way to the victory lane. Meanwhile, celebrations had already begun for Dillon's crew and family members, which included his wife and two children.
As the team waited for Dillon, they unexpectedly ran into an angry Logano driving his damaged #22 Team Penske Ford Mustang. Seemingly angry about how the race ended, the two-time Cup Series champion revved his engine and drove dangerously in the pit lane ahead of RCR's crew members and Dillon's family.
"You can see and hear Logano limping down Pit Road, smoking the tires a few times with people walking around. Not great. But then, he gasses it up right in front of members of Richard Childress Racing, including Austin Dillon's wife and child," Estepp commented, explaining the situation (1:25 onwards).
"You cannot show your frustration and anger the way he did on pit road. That's dangerous and should also be heavily scrutinized," he added (3:38 onwards).
Considering Logano's actions, NASCAR penalized him with a $50,000 fine. As for Dillon, he has now been taken off the Playoffs list.
