Tony Stewart became a father as he welcomed his son, Dominic James Stewart to the world on November 14, 2024. Since his son's birth, Stewart has been busy with his NHRA appearance, replacing his wife Leah Pruett, who is on a break from her racing career. However, Stewart recently got a chance to spend time with his newborn, prompting the 53-year-old to share his perspective on being a father.
Stewart recalled the moment when he was busy with the NHRA finals and his manager told him that his wife was on her way to the hospital, catching the former NASCAR Cup Series winner off guard. After concluding the pre-race meetup, the 53-year-old called his wife, and she told him to focus on his race.
After making his run, Tony Stewart called Leah again, and she asked him to get ready for his final qualifying run. As soon as he finished his race, he went to Phoenix to meet his wife, and he said that Leah looked like "she’s ready to go out to dinner. Beautiful and calm." After a few hours of contractions, they welcomed their son around 5 am.
The hospital staff shifted Stewart and his wife to a different room, and after getting settled in, the three-time Cup Series winner texted his family about the good news.
"Parents started going crazy with joy. I thought I'd try to get some more sleep, but that didn't happen—a prelude to future sleep deprivation."
The former Stewart-Haas Racing owner left at eight in the morning, kissing his wife goodbye and telling them he would see them soon after finishing his NHRA campaign. Former Stewart-Haas racing driver Kevin Harvick also playfully congratulated the couple.
"Tony Stewart has to change the diaper": Kevin Harvick reacts to his former boss becoming a father for the first time
The 2014 Cup Series champion Kevin Harvick and former Stewart Haas Racing driver recently poked fun at his former boss Tony Stewart. Harvick drove under SHR's banner for ten seasons and brought the third Cup Series title for the team.
In the latest episode of Harvick's "Happy Hour" podcast, he congratulated Stewart and his wife Leah on becoming parents for the first time. As a father of two, Harvick knows all the struggles parents face and is excited to see how his former boss takes on parenthood.
"I can't wait," Kevin Harvick said. "Once they get their feet on the ground, I'm going to visit. I have to see this with my own two eyes." (28:28 onwards)
As a father of two, the California native wants to see his former boss hold his newborn son and see him change the diaper. Harvick humorously said:
"I just have to visually see him hold the baby," Harvick said. "I just want to be there long enough for it to crap its pants, and he has to change the diaper." (28:45 onwards)
The 48-year-old former NASCAR Cup Series driver added that he believes Tony Stewart and his wife Leah would make great parents.
