Hendrick Motorsport driver Alex Bowman has said that he is teaming up with fellow NASCAR racer Erik Jones to support early cancer detection through the “Window of Hope” program.
This initiative, which has been launched amid the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, will feature pink window nets on Cup Series cars at Charlotte Motor Speedway’s ROVAL on October 13. Alex Bowman, the No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro driver, posted about the auction for signed pink window nets.
"Proud to partner with @Erik_Jones and his #WindowofHope program to run this pink window net this weekend. You can bid on my signed window net starting October 14 at http://erikjonesfoundation.org, with the funds supporting early cancer detection through the @ErikJonesFdn," Bowman wrote.
The auction will raise money for the Erik Jones Foundation, which raises awareness for breast cancer and funds screenings.
Jones and members of his foundation also painted the walls of Charlotte Motor Speedway pink earlier this month.
"This cause is one that is personal and important to not only myself, but also my foundation. For the second year we will be able to raise important funds for breast cancer screenings through our ‘Window of Hope’ program and help directly impact the lives of so many people,” Jones said via Racing Refresh.
On the track, Bowman is having a strong playoff run this year. He has three top-10 finishes in his last five races and is currently 26 points above the cut-line going into the Round of 12 elimination race.
He has earned points in every stage of the postseason, except for the second stage at Talladega last weekend. A bad push from Bowman caused Ryan Blaney to crash at the end of the stage, which also took out Ross Chastain. Both drivers were out of the race and Bowman later stated it was his fault.
Alex Bowman ready for Roval 400 after previous strong finishes
The last race in the current round of the Cup Series is The Bank of America Roval 400 this Sunday. This race at Charlotte Motor Speedway is 248.5 miles (400 kilometers) and uses a unique track layout that combines a road course and an oval.
Alex Bowman joked about the race track in a post on Instagram.
"Tomorrow we take a left, another left, a right, a right, a sweeping right…you get the idea," Bowman wrote.
Alex Bowman's best finish at Charlottte Roval was 2nd place in 2019. He has also finished in the top 10 in his last 5 races at the track, driving the #48 and #88 Chevrolet.
Bowman's average finish (6.4) at the Roval is also better than all his Hendrick Motorsports teammates.
