Ross Chastain recently shared his words of advice for young aspirants who wish to one day join NASCAR. Ahead of the weekend in Mexico, the Trackhouse Racing driver revealed his suggestions in a media availability session.
Chastain claimed that in Mexico City, anybody who aspires to be a driver should go race in the Go Kart Mania which he deemed "awesome". The #1 driver claimed he not only sees himself 'ripping laps' there, but also sees his kids in that setting.
"As a driver you just have to start racing, whatever level you can afford. Everybody has a different path. There’s no right or wrong way to do this. There’s multi-generation families that are racing that Daniel and I are racing against. There’s guys like Daniel and I that our dads liked racing and helped us get going and worked to make money so they could spend on go-karts for Daniel, Pro Trucks for me, late models, asphalt late models in the States. Whatever you can race, keep moving up. If you are successful, if you can win, keep moving up. Be around older racers," Chastain elaborated.
As for those who aspire to join the PR side or the engineering side of racing, Ross Chastain mentioned the scope of being scholarship to join a team.
The Trackhouse Racing driver also gave his word of advice to any aspiring individuals in NASCAR Mexico. Chastain urged them to approach personnel in the garage and introduce themselves.
He mentioned that while the prospect of moving to the US to work in NASCAR is 'scary', the aspiring individuals should still take their shots despite the possibility of hearing a no.
Daniel Suarez adds to the advice of Ross Chastain for aspiring Mexicans
After Ross Chastain gave his advice to aspiring racers and individuals, his teammate Daniel Suarez gave his version of the same. It's worth mentioning that Suarez was once a racecar driver in the NASCAR Mexico Series.
And only through his hard work and willingness to progress did he reach the stature of the top Cup Series racer he is today.
The Mexico native claimed that NASCAR Cup Racing being in his backyard is 'a very good opportunity' for everyone who aims to work in the sport one day.
"Right now we are racing in a stage that is different than 90% of the races that we do, so in my mind this is a great opportunity for the Mexico Series and, just like Ross mentioned, drivers, mechanics, engineers, pit crew members, everything to hopefully, for those that really want to exceed Mexico and go to the United States, trying to build some connections somehow," Suarez said.
He claimed that when he was moving to the US, his mechanics from the Mexico Series also wanted to take the step with him. But at that time, Daniel Suarez said he didn't have the connections as he was trying to 'survive myself.'
But years from that, he feels he has reached a position where he can help people in that situation. Suarez pressed on the upcoming race being 'very important' to grow the diversity in NASCAR as he emphasized the need to have more Mexicans in the sport.
He hoped that the race would serve the purpose of opening the eyes of many individuals who dream of working with NASCAR in the US.
