NASCAR driver Ross Chastain's Yellawood 500 came to an untimely end at Talladega Superspeedway last Sunday. Recently, he revealed a harrowing piece of information about his wreck in Alabama.Chastain drives the #1 Chevrolet for Trackhouse Racing Team, competing full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series. He began his journey in the Truck Series, debuting in the #66 entry at Indianapolis. He has amassed 12 race wins across all NASCAR divisions, including five victories in the Cup Series. His most recent victory came in the Hollywood Casino 400 playoff race at Kansas Speedway.At Talladega, as stage two was nearing its end, reigning Cup Series champion Ryan Blaney was shoved in the back by Alex Bowman, which sent the #12 Ford crashing into Chastain before making contact with the wall. Here's a look at the incident:Recently, Chastain revealed that his HANS(Head and Neck Safety) device broke during the crash at Talladega. Despite coming out of the car in flames, and a broken HANS device, Chastain was released from the infield care center with no serious injury.The HANS (Head and Neck Support) device was introduced in NASCAR on 17 October 2001, after the tragic death of Dale Earnhardt in a crash at the Daytona 500 earlier that year. The device was designed to prevent fatal head and neck injuries by stabilizing a driver's head during crashes. The push for this safety feature intensified after a similar fatal crash occurred in an ARCA race in October 2001.Meanwhile, Ross Chastain, who narrowly missed the 2024 playoffs, finished last in the Yellawood 500. However, the #1 driver has secured three top-ten finishes in five playoff races, a better result than most drivers remaining in the playoffs.Ross Chastain enjoys the lack of media attention after missing out on this year's playoffsRoss Chastain assumed the role of 'Spoiler' in the Hollywood Casino 400 playoff race at Kansas Speedway. Following his win, Chastain expressed his joy of not having media personnel following him around despite being a race winner.The Florida native started the Hollywood Casino 400 in P20 after an underwhelming qualifying session. However, as the race went on, Chastain made his way up to the front of the pack and eventually grabbed his first victory of the season, after an intense battle with two-time champion Kyle Busch.Following the end of the race, the #1 driver shed light on not being in the spotlight. He said, via Cup Scene:"I’ve never been so happy to watch y’all walk by, everybody in this room. I’ve never been so happy to watch Netflix walk the other way when I get there. Like, the boom mics are going that way. They’re following Daniel Suarez. They’re talking to Justin Marks, but none of it’s about me," he said."To be honest, I love it. I’m all for it. I’m the first one to sign up for Netflix.
