Ahead of Sunday’s GEICO 500 at the Talladega Superspeedway, Ross Chastain opened up about his last week’s last lap incident with William Byron at Texas Motor Speedway.

During a media interaction at Talladega, Chastain preferred not to discuss much about the incident and clarified that the Texas wreck would never change anything for Byron. Chastain is focusing on moving forward rather than dwelling on the bad races.

When Frontstretch’s Brad Harrison asked about his feelings about last week’s Texas incident, Chastain replied:

“At the end, I don't have an opinion of how it all happened. Nothing I want to talk about. Yeah, this week, next week. Next month, next year, nothing changes for me.”

While battling for second place on the final lap of the overtime Texas race, Byron made contact with Chastain. That sent the #1 Trackhouse Racing Chevrolet into barriers and he finished the race in 32nd place after a rough final lap.

Ross Chastain confirmed that he received a call from William Byron but mentioned that there was nothing serious to discuss regarding their interaction.

“There's nothing with William to talk about. I don't have anything that I think about with him. I have not, other than the two minute phone call we had on Wednesday. Not a lot of words were said there, and there's no words I have right now.
"I just don't think that way. I don't dwell on it. If I dwelled on all the bad races, y'all wouldn't see me here. Cuz early in my career, I had given up. So there was times where I would have celebrated a low 30th place finish not when you're gonna run second,” Chastain added.

“That's not how anybody wants it” – Ross Chastain comments on missing out the opportunity at Texas

Trackhouse Racing driver had an opportunity to claim his first win of the season, but it quickly turned into a nightmare. The wreck sent him from a potential top-five finish to a dismal P32, though.

Reflecting on missing out on the P2 finish at Texas, Ross Chastain expressed his frustration:

“Of course. I mean, in the moment, I was ... super mad and still am and we got wrecked. That's not how anybody wants it, but as far as moving forward, I won't lose any sleep over it.
"I'm in a spot now where I know I've got a job and I know I've got a lot of races ahead of me and not going to do me any good to dwell on that. So I've had a great week.”
