It's worth mentioning that Hamlin not only has some experience with NASCAR racing in Mexico, but he has also won at it. In 2006, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver took the checkered flag in the Xfinity Series race in Mexico.

During a recent episode of his podcast, Actions Detrimental, Hamlin shared his opinions on the upcoming race.

"The track seems fun. I won at this track 20 years ago but it is a different track. There's a few more corners that are different than what it was back when I ran it 20 years ago, but running it in the sim it seems like a very good track, it's got some good passing zones so yeah the atmosphere was awesome when we were there with the Xfinity series, so yeah, looking forward to checking it out," Denny Hamlin said. The #11 driver mentioned he had 'a bad experience' when he went to Mexico City 20 years ago. Because of this, he claimed he'd prefer to remain close to the hotel this time around.

Denny Hamlin was further asked about his plans for baby watch for Mexico, considering Michigan and Nashville were races where he could've left for home. However, with Mexico being an international race, Hamlin wouldn't have an as easy exit.

The veteran driver claimed he has to figure that out because of the logistics and flight duration.

"I can't leave certainly until we have a baby and then I guess we're on track on Friday. I don't know we got to play this one by ear," he added.

Denny Hamlin going ahead with 'winging it' approach for Mexico City

During his podcast, Denny Hamlin was also asked whether he recalled the elevation being a factor in his Xfinity Series outing in 2006. Hamlin revealed he finds it hard to remember a lot from his experience.

Having said that, he claimed he hasn't done any sort of extra training. But he did receive information to prepare himself as he revealed the extra mile some Toyota crews are going for the same.

"I know that quite a few of the Toyota guys are staying out in Aspen over the last week or so last two weeks to try to get acclimated to the elevation. It just wears you out. It's no different than basketball players that go play at the Denver Nuggets... I'm winging it," he said. [47:30]

Speaking for himself, Denny Hamlin claimed he'd be 'winging it'. He added that there are drivers who are preparing with hyperbaric chambers and elevation tents for the upcoming race in Mexico.
