Following Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron qualifying for the Cup Series Championship 4 race, NASCAR insiders Jeff Gluck and Jordan Bianchi have reacted to Chevrolet drivers' alliance tactics at Martinsville on the recent The Teardown podcast.Starting the Xfinity race in third place, Byron managed the pace of his #24 HMS Chevrolet Camaro through Stage 1 and 2, ending in second and fifth positions respectively. However, as the race progressed to the third and final stage, Byron began losing ground, moving down the order to sixth position.Despite the challenges, the Charlotte-born racer kept the momentum going to finish sixth in the race, earning a place in the Championship 4 race at Phoenix. However, NASCAR analyst Gluck and Bianchi shared a different side to Byron's Martinsville race on The Teardown podcast. They believe that Chevy drivers Austin Dillon and Ross Chastain created a sort of blockade behind Byron to essentially push him into the Cup Series grand finale."So even though Bell can't gain a lot because he's trapped a lap down, Byron cannot afford to lose any spots, but Byron is fading. It was almost starting to look reminiscent of last year where he cannot hang on and other cars are coming up. But instead of passing him, it just so happens that Chevy teammates were behind him. You have Austin Dillon, you have Ross Chastain. And it was clear, even before we heard the radio chatter, these guys were not going to pass him," Gluck said, explaining the situation (0:11 onward)."They're blocking the track. They were just right behind him. They rode two by two. They effectively formed a blockade. It wasn't like they were just like single file because then someone could have gone around them. They literally almost blocked the track," Bianchi added, highlighting Dillon and Chastain's blocking maneuver (0:43 onward)."They clogged up the track. NBC plays the radio chatter during that 27 minute delay as they're trying to figure out everything after the race. And, you know, obviously both are told, hey, listen, you know the situation, whatever it is, he's in by one point. And they didn't have to say, I don't know that we specifically heard them say, don't pass," Gluck continued, likely pointing towards race manipulation tactics (0:53 onward).A video clip of the conversation above was shared on X by Dirty Mo Media. Here's a look at the post, captioned:"They [Austin Dillon & Ross Chastain] didn't just ride behind him ... they effectively formed a blockade." 🛡️"I'm just proud of my team" - Hendrick Motorsports' William Byron after entering the 2024 Cup Series Championship 4 raceBased on points accumulated during the Playoffs, Hendrick Motorsports driver William Byron has advanced to the 2024 Cup Series Championship 4, alongside Round of 8 race winners Joey Logano, Tyler Reddick, and Ryan Blaney. The #24 driver shared his thoughts on Christopher Bell's penalty and credited his team for the result at Martinsville during the post-race media interaction."Yeah, I mean I'm not happy for anything, but the rule is what it is for the crossover gate over there and riding the wall, so it is what it is.
