Tyler Reddick recently shared his experience with Toyota Performance Center's interesting and unique altitude training program for the Viva Mexico 250 race next weekend. The race in Mexico will provide an opportunity for the drivers to win a historic and memorable race at the new road course. The race takes place 7349 feet above sea level, for which several manufacturers have taken special steps to prepare for the weekend.
Toyota decided to develop a unique method for the drivers, creating an eight-week program to prepare the drivers well. Not all Toyota drivers opted for the extensive program, but several of them took full advantage of it.
The coaches and staff exposed the drivers to Hypoxic conditions. The drivers were involved in sleeping or resting in conditions with low oxygen levels. Tyler Reddick was involved in the extensive program and shared his experience of the program, citing his wife's unhappiness with it.
"Doing this has been fun. The setting, the atmosphere, is all a little bit different, so you're testing yourself in new ways. I will say one side effect of it is that my wife hasn't been super happy about me sleeping in a hypoxic environment, especially at the later stages of her pregnancy. For me, I've definitely noticed a difference from start to where I'm at now." Tyler Reddick said via altdriver.
The 29-year-old driver races for the 23XI Racing team and finished 13th in the FireKeepers Casino 400 race at the Michigan International Speedway last Sunday. Reddick is currently ranked sixth in the NASCAR Cup Series this season, scoring 460 points so far.
Tyler Reddick expresses his mindspace amid the 23XI Racing lawsuit
Tyler Reddick and his teammate, Bubba Wallace, remain united amid the lawsuit controversy with NASCAR and the 23XI Racing team. The futures of the two drivers remain uncertain until the result of the lawsuit is announced.
Both drivers had commendable results at the Michigan International Speedway, with Bubba Wallace finishing fourth and Tyler Reddick finishing sixth. Reddick shared his opinions when he was asked if the situation weighed on him or not.
"The only comment I have is I'm going to keep doing my part to try and show up as prepared as possible and keep winning races. I mean, the leadership, owners are keeping me updated on everything that's going on. Like I told them, I've got to stay focused on what I can control - that's my preparation, that's, hopefully, my proper execution on Saturdays and Sundays." Tyler Reddick told the Media.
The driver was also asked about his plans of potentially getting into open-wheel racing, to which the 29-year-old driver neither denied nor accepted. He simply suggested that the media have a talk with his legal team.
Reddick will be back in action for the Viva Mexico 250 race next week. He hopes to continue his stellar form and deliver good results.
