Denny Hamlin remains on baby watch for the third straight week as fiancée Jordan Fish's pregnancy continues, and according to the latest update by NASCAR insider Danielle Trotta, the No. 11 driver is considering missing this weekend’s inaugural Cup race in Mexico City (June 15).
SiriusXM NASCAR radio host Trotta shared Hamlin's comments ahead of the Viva Mexico 250 at Autódromo Hermanos Rodríguez in her latest post on X.
"Denny Hamlin just joined us On Track and said if Jordan doesn’t deliver their baby boy by the time he has to leave for Mexico City he’s not going. Said his priority is her and the delivery of their 3rd child," Trotta wrote.
Hamlin and Jordon announced their pregnancy last December. The couple, who currently share two daughters, were expecting their third child, a baby boy in early June, and the Joe Gibbs Racing driver has been on baby watch since Nashville.
Meanwhile, Joe Gibbs Racing continues to place Ryan Truex on standby, as NASCAR journalist Chris Wilner shared on X. The former Cup driver will be ready to step into the No. 11 car should Hamlin miss the Mexico City event on June 15.
Last weekend at Michigan, Hamlin qualified third but remained on baby watch, with Fish being over 40 weeks pregnant. But he finished the race and ended up clinching his third win of the season.
"I can’t leave until we have the baby" - Denny Hamlin talks logistics for a potential absence in Mexico City
Denny Hamlin is ranked third in the Cup standings following his win at Michigan. He will receive a playoff waiver if he misses the Mexico race.
While Cup drivers are set to leave Mexico this Thursday (June 12), Hamlin said that he’s unsure if he’ll make the trip. During the latest episode of the Actions Detrimental podcast, Hamlin also shared that his attendance was up in the air and said he'll "play it by ear" depending on when the baby comes.
"We got to figure that out because I certainly cannot leave, it’s one thing from when you’re in Michigan and you’re an hour-and-a-half flight away, there’s no customs and I fly right into the airport. It’s just not that in Mexico. I can’t leave until we have the baby. Guess we’re on track on Friday. I don’t know. I’ve gotta play this one by ear," Denny Hamlin said (45:25 onwards).
The race in Mexico City marks the Cup Series' first-ever points race outside the US since 1958. The practice and qualifying sessions will begin on Friday at 1:05 pm ET, and the race is expected to start at 3 pm ET on Sunday. Prime Video will broadcast both sessions and the main race.
