With the NFL season now over, teams are focusing on what they need to do in the offseason and what they need to do to be a better team next season. The NFL Scouting Combine will take place on February 27-March 5 in Indianapolis and general managers will be keeping a close eye on players who can help contribute to their team. Teams will make trades and/or free agency to make their team better.
Today we will look at what each NFC East team needs this offseason:
New York Giants (3-13): Offensive Line, Running Back, and Linebacker
The New York Giants had one of the worst offensive lines in the NFL a season ago. Ereck Flowers isn't the answer at left tackle and the Giants need a better blindside man for Eli Manning. The Giants also need a right tackle. They will build the line either through the draft or free agency. With the number two pick, the Giants should draft Saquon Barkley because he has breakaway speed and Barkley can take over a game. If he is taken number one overall, the Giants should trade down and acquire more picks. Since the Giants are most likely changing to a 3-4 defensive scheme, they need more athletic and talented linebackers on the roster.
Washington Redskins (7-9): Offensive Line, Corner Back, Defensive Tackle
The Washington Redskins already acquired quarterback Alex Smith from the Kansas City Chiefs, which means that Kirk Cousins won't be back next season. I think the Redskins did a disservice to him. I don't think Cousins was the issue for the Redskins the past couple of years. The issue was the offensive line and Cousins continued to take beatings. The defense also didn't help him out either. Washington could use help at either guard or tackle. The Redskins secondary isn't very good. When Josh Norman wasn't playing, they would get picked apart and they could use another corner and the Redskins decided to trade away Kendall Fuller. Washington could also use some help at the defensive tackle spot.
Dallas Cowboys (9-7): Wide Receiver, Tight End, Linebacker
The Dallas Cowboys need to get help for Dak Prescott. He has running back Ezekiel Elliott and a solid offensive line, but Prescott needs playmakers on the outside and the inside. Dez Bryant is washed up at wide receiver and he isn't elite. Terrance Williams isn't good at wide receiver either. Cole Beasley is a good slot receiver, but he isn't an outside receiver. Brice Butler isn't a bad receiver, but he is not a number one receiver. Dak needs a guy on the outside who can create separation. He also needs a receiver who fights for passes in the air. Dak also needs a tight end. Look, Jason Witten is still around and he is going to be going to Canton one day, but Witten is slow and not the player he used to be. James Hanna and Rico Gathers are the other tight ends on the roster, but are they really the answer at tight end? Dallas needs a tough tight end down the middle who can run and catch. They need another good young linebacker especially if Sean Lee goes down again.
Philadelphia Eagles (13-3): Defensive Backs
The Philadelphia Eagles are Super Bowl LII Champions and they don't have a lot of needs. They are set at all positions on offense, but they could use some retooling on defense especially at defensive back. They could use another corner even though they drafted Sidney Jones last year and he didn't play. Philadelphia could use a safety because Malcolm Jenkins is getting older.
