Ankita Das: A Brief Biography

Ankita Das is an Indian table tennis player from Siliguri, West Bengal who is slated as the only female Table Tennis player for India in London Olympics 2012. She has improved considerably since her debut having undergone vigorous training the past few months under the guidance of national coach Bhawani Mukherjee. The 19-yr old competed in a nerve wracking match defeating her counterpart K Shamini in the South Asian qualifiers in Hong Kong which ensured her berth in Indian Olympic squad. She relies heavily on backhand counter techniques and top spins which are her strengths. Though she competed in the Women\'s singles Table Tennis event at the 2012 Summer Olympics she had to return home sans a medal. As of July 2012 she is ranked fourth in Women\'s table tennis in India.
