On Wednesday, October 1, 2025, J.K. Rowling took to her official Twitter account and bashed an X-user for calling her a “closet lesbian.” After the netizen claimed on X:

“Since you’re so incredibly obsessed with this one subject, I’m gonna put my money where my mouth is. $100 says you’re a closet lesbian.”

The author replied:

“I am if you're the alternative.”

Notably, the Twitter exchange between the British author and the X-user started when Rowling replied to an article by The Critic on September 27. The article mentioned Emma’s comments about their relationship from her appearance on Jay Shetty’s viral podcast.

Meanwhile, in her initial post, J.K. Rowling wrote:

“It’s quite extraordinary how many people think a crocodile will be so grateful you’ve fed it red meat for years that it’ll let you stroll away unharmed when you decide you want a break.”

According to the BBC, J.K. Rowling took a toll on Emma Watson after she recently spoke about their relationship and their public disagreement over gender identity. The Harry Potter actress, last week, appeared on Jay Shetty’s On Purpose podcast and expressed her admiration towards Rowling, amid their differences on the gender identity subject.

“I really don’t believe that … holding the love and support and views that I have, means that I can’t and don’t treasure Jo and the person that I had personal experiences with,” Emma expressed.

Meanwhile, on Monday, October 30, the author took to X and wrote:

“Like other people who've never experienced adult life uncushioned by wealth and fame, Emma has so little experience of real life she's ignorant of how ignorant she is.”

Rowling further addressed her thoughts on Emma’s recent comments and said:

“Adults can't expect to cosy up to an activist movement that regularly calls for a friend’s assassination, then assert their right to the former friend's love, as though the friend was in fact their mother. Emma is rightly free to disagree with me and indeed to discuss her feelings about me in public - but I have the same right, and I've finally decided to exercise it.”

For the unversed, Emma Watson played the role of Hermione Granger in eight Harry Potter films based on J.K. Rowling’s popular novels. The films were released between 2001 and 2011.

Meanwhile, Emma Watson and her Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe were reportedly among the actors who detached themselves from the author when she sparked a row by speaking out against trans activism.
