“It doesn't suit him”: Fans left unimpressed with Matt Damon’s first look in Oppenheimer

There has hardly been a film more relevant than Oppenheimer in the past few months. Ahead of its planned theatrical release on July 21, 2023, the Christopher Nolan film has received massive coverage from the media and even more restless anticipation from fans. This is primarily because of the hype created by Christopher Nolan due to his previous hits like Dunkirk, Inception, and The Dark Knight.

Following the intricate story of Physicist J Robert Oppenheimer, who led forth the Manhattan Project leading to the eventual development of the atomic bomb and thereby changing history forever, this film will see some big names like Cillian Murphy, Matt Damon, and Robert Downey Jr., lead the way.

As details about Oppenheimer continue to drop all around, a recent set of pictures released by the production gave a glimpse at the characters of Murphy and Damon, causing some fans to express their disappointment at seeing the latter in the role.

Of course, Murphy has been a fan-favorite, thanks to his role in Peaky Blinders, which transformed him into an icon for a generation. However, fans have not been too kind to the veteran Matt Damon after his new images surfaced, with some Twitter users pointing out that his character is not fitting.

While Oppenheimer has had a positive reaction up to this point, it recently drew some criticism from fans with the release of the new looks. It seems that most fans are a little underwhelmed by Damon's look, who recently appeared in the Nike-centered drama Air.

Of course, not all of it is negative as many fans commented on how excited they were to see Oppenheimer's story unfold. Moreover, both the actors boasting a huge fanbase has also helped the cause a lot.

While a part of the fanbase were unimpressed, the other side of the fandom were more than happy about the upcoming Nolan film. They admired Damon and Murphy's look and how Nolan's film happens to put them in aesthetically well-suited roles.

Oppenheimer will premiere globally on July 21, 2023, in theatres. The ensemble cast for the film includes Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Michael Angarano, Josh Hartnett, and Kenneth Branagh.
