On September 9, art director Shaun Harrison took to Facebook to speak about Lil Wayne’s work ethic and why he would not be a good choice to headline the upcoming 2025 Apple Music Super Bowl LIX Halftime Show.

This comes after Wayne’s long-time engineer/manager, Fabian Marasciullo, took to his Instagram story to express that the singer must have headlined the event considering that the championship was taking place in New Orleans, Louisiana, his home state. Lil Wayne’s fans also took to the internet to express the same sentiments.

On September 9, 2024, Shaun Harrison claimed to have worked with Wayne before in one of his Grammy performances. Harrison stated:

“Personal feelings that would be the biggest mistake ever putting him as the headliner for the biggest performance of the year The Super Bowl. He showed up to zero rehearsals, we didn’t even think he would make the performance, then last minute he was in the building and ran on stage for the performance and ran off back into oblivion lol."
"Never even got to meet him after week of rehearsals for the show.”

Harrison also opined that Kendrick Lamar was one of the best rappers of all time and that it would be a treat to see him perform at the Halftime show during Black History Month. Harrison said, “It’s going to be a spectacle.”

Shaun Harrison’s social media post was quick to go viral as it circulated across social media.

In December 2023, Lil Wayne said in a Bleachers Report interview that he wanted to perform at the Super Bowl “badly.” He also opined that he would be the right choice for the same as he would represent Louisiana’s culture. Wayne said:

"There’s so many people that’s not from the city there. So it’s a showcase. It’s something that tourists take back with them, and everybody not coming from an American city."

He further added:

"They're gonna remember, ‘OK, I went to New Orleans for the game…I kind of remember the halftime show, I remember the food.’ It's a showcase and I believe that I'm a part of the New Orleans showcase.”
