Meanwhile, Crazy Legs, born Richard Colón, took to Instagram to weigh in on the matter. Richard said,
"My personal opinion is that she should’ve never been on that stage."
He further added that Rachael should have admitted initially that the competition wasn't for her. Crazy Legs also stated that according to him judges should have declared her disqualified.
The veteran breakdancer had, however, also mentioned that she doesn't deserve so much criticism and bashing since that might affect her mental health. He said,
"Homegirl’s been dragged globally, dragged hardcore. People should ease up because the focus at this point should be all the good that came out of it."
Several celebrities have given their opinions on RayGun's performance at the Olympics
While people witnessed breakdancing as being a part of the Olympics for the first time, athlete Rachael Gunn's performance garnered mixed reactions from the audience and even other celebrities. As stated already, veteran breakdancer Crazy Legs weighed in on the situation and claimed that he was not really a big fan of her dance and even claimed that she should not have performed.
Dr. Dre further spoke to Entertainment Tonight, on August 13, where he also held a similar view as Crazy Legs. Dre said,
"I did not like that. It’s so many great breakdancers that I don’t know why they had this particular person doing that."
As reported by AllHipHop, American record producer and rapper Jermaine Dupri also spoke about RayGun's performance at the Olympics. Dupri believed that going easy on her wouldn't be helpful to her in the process of learning. The 51-year-old record producer further said,
"Taking it easy on the young lady to me doesn’t train her and give her the true essence of what hip-hop is about."
He additionally mentioned that "hip-hop is a battle" and that if someone lost it, they should go back, practice, and come back again. Dupri also stated that hip-hop was never supposed to be soft in nature. He continued:
"That’s a essence of hip-hop. That’s an element of hip-hop and for some reason, I don’t know who it is and how why, but some people are trying to take that element out of this s***. Man, Hip-Hop is not meant to be soft."
Breakdancing insider Dujon Cullingford has referred to her performance and shed light on the issues that the breakdancing community faces in the Pacific and New Zealand. He even stated that the people criticizing RayGun on the internet, possibly had no knowledge and interest in the activity.
