Around June, the term "Hawk Tuah" gained popularity on TikTok, and was utilized as an onomatopoeia for the sound someone makes when they spit. This happened after two YouTubers stopped passer-by Hailey Welch for an interview. When asked a question, “What’s one move in bed that makes a man go crazy every time?" she replied:
"Oh, you gotta give him that 'hawk tuah' and spit on that thing, you get me?"
Welch's humorous emphasis on onomatopoeia immediately drew attention from social media users and the term "Hawk Tuah" went viral. Now in light of this, a YouTube video from 16 years ago began trending because it was recommended by the site’s algorithm recently. This resulted in a massive spike in the viewership of the clip, which had already received over 2,900,000 views as of November 30.
The video was uploaded by a YouTuber user who goes by the username tomasaurus2 on February 12, 2008. The 34-second video was simply captioned:
“Hawk tuah”
The description of the video further read:
“20 feet from our living room window a Cooper's hawk ate a pigeon on a telephone pole. This is on Capitol Hill in Seattle.”
After the YouTube video gained traction, people took to the comment section of the same to express their amusement about the video's title, even though the clip had nothing to do with the original Hawk Tuah video which went viral.
One YouTube user jokingly claimed that the person uploading the video is a "time traveler" as they created the video 16 years before the phrase went viral.
Other YT users also pointed out the same thing. One said that the clip getting recommended after so many years is actually “hilarious” while another one said that for so many years, the clip was hiding and waiting for someone to “visit it.”
One netizen said that the person who uploaded the clip is a “prophet” as they allegedly predicted the future. One YT user even said that the person should have their own podcast, just like Haliey has now.
Old Hawk Tuah videos on YouTube started getting views in the light of the recent Hawk Tuah video
For the unversed, the YouTube duo Tim and Dee TV approached Haliey Welch as she was strolling down Broadway on June 9, 2024 during Nashville's CMA Fest. The YouTubers were making content by asking questions to the random people they met on the street.
In their street-style interview approach, DeArius Marlow, often known as Dee, asked Welch a question about that one move that always "makes a man go crazy in bed". In response, Welch then immediately said:
"Oh, you gotta give him that 'hawk tuah' and spit on that thing, you get me?"
Social media users quickly took notice of Welch's answer and her use of onomatopoeia. Then in just one week, Tim & Dee's "Hawk Tuah" video received close to nine million views. The video received more views on TikTok after DeArius uploaded it on his account, @dmarloww, on June 11.
After the video went viral, Haliey initially went into hiding, but she quickly accepted her newfound fame and now hosts her podcast named Talk Tuah.
On the other hand, this old Hawk Tuah video isn’t the only clip that gained traction after so many years in light of Hailey Welch's viral video. Another YT video, which was uploaded on Sep 9, 2006, by a YouTube user @bowmangarrett recently received 406,888 views.
The video was also named as “Hawk ‘Tuah’” but its description read:
"Photo montage of a hawk in our backyard. We named him in honor of Hang Tuah. Music is "Angel" by Hendrix."
Staying true to the description, the video consists of pictures of a flying hawk from different directions.
Nevertheless, even as the old videos went viral in recent days, Haliey didn’t say anything about the whole thing.
