For the ninth year, Thanksgiving Grandma Wanda Dench and Jamal Hilton celebrated the holiday together. However, this year, they were not seen side to side but on FaceTime.

Walda Dench recently announced her breast cancer diagnosis to CNN and shared that she had just finished her chemotherapy, which prevented her from meeting Jamal in person. She stated:

“I just recently finished up with chemotherapy, so I’m not 100 per cent yet. And I live about two hours away from where Jamal lives. And so we decided that this year would be best for my health if I stayed at home. We will FaceTime with each other. I was looking forward to meeting his family and having turkey with everybody, but we have to accept things the way they are, and I’m sure next year is going to be so much better.”

Their Thanksgiving Instagram Live melted many hearts, as it came a month after Walda Dench revealed her battle with the deadly disease. As videos of their live session went viral on social media, netizens began sharing their thoughts. An X user, @PopCrave, also posted about it, prompting one netizen to respond:

“This is so sweet but really sad.”

Other users expressed their opinions on the platform.

“It's wonderful to see Jamal and Grandma Wanda maintaining their heartwarming tradition despite the challenges. Wishing Wanda strength and health as they celebrate virtually this year,” wrote an X user.
“I’m not American but I look forward to this tradition every year. wishing the best for Wanda,” added another.
“Such a heartwarming tradition, even in tough times. Wishing Grandma Wanda strength and health,” exclaimed one more netizen.

On the other hand, some commented and wished Wanda Dench a speedy recovery.

“This is the best Thanksgiving tradition….but also hoping she gets better and recovers soon!” commented one internet user.
“Oh no, pls heal this kind hearted woman. We need more 100 years of them celebrating Thanksgiving together,” said one more.

Grandma Wanda Dench and Jamal Hinton's Thanksgiving tradition began in 2016

Grandma Wanda Dench and Jamal Hinton’s Thanksgiving tradition has become insanely popular among the masses. The tradition actually started in 2016 when Wanda mistakenly texted Jamal while inviting her six grandkids. Hinton shared the whole story with People Magazine in 2016, saying:

“The text said, 'Thanksgiving at my house' and it was from a grandma, but I was like, 'When did my grandma learn to text!?' So I asked her for a picture and it definitely was not my grandma.”

He stated that he then jokingly responded to the text by asking if he could “still get a plate,” to which Wanda Dench said:

“Of course, you can. That's what grandmas do … feed everyone."

For the unversed, Wanda Dench announced her cancer diagnosis in October, revealing that a CT scan confirmed a lump in her breast. Furthermore, she shared that she is now on the path to recovery as she undergoes chemotherapy. At the moment, Wanda has not given a health update.
