Ahead of its premiere next month, Secret Invasion released a trailer recently. Titled Fight, the clip focuses on Nick Fury facing a war that he has to tackle “alone” as it is “personal.” This is also why he is not taking help from any of his “special friends” (read The Avengers). Touted as Marvel Cinematic Universe’s (MCU) first Phase Five series, Secret Invasion is scheduled to hit Disney+ on June 21, 2023.

As soon as Discussing Film shared the teaser, a section of social media users appeared confused. They took to Twitter to wonder why the Skrulls are after Nick Fury, especially after the events in Captain Marvel where the titular superhero helped the alien shapeshifter group find a new home.

Created by Kyle Bradstreet, Secret Invasion is based on Marvel Comics’ crossover storyline of the same name. As per that, apart from Fury, The New Avengers, The Mighty Avengers, Fantastic Four, X-Men, The Initiative, and Thunderbolts, among others, are also the main characters of the plot. Whether they would be featured in the upcoming miniseries isn't known yet.

Secret Invasion brings back Samuel L. Jackson as Fury. The Academy Honorary Awardee has portrayed the S.H.I.E.L.D. hotshot’s character in as many as 11 MCU films and also was the guest star in ABC’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Throughout its minute-long duration, the new teaser covers a lot of arcs but mainly focuses on Fury’s lone fight and his preparation for it. Apart from him, Talos, Gravik, G'iah, Sonya Falsworth, and James "Rhodey" Rhodes, among others, got their respective footage in Fight.

Aided by a remixed version of Stormzy’s Audacity in the backdrop, the teaser does keep one engrossed. However, it also left netizens confused. When Discussing Film dropped the promotional clip, they rallied on Twitter to ask about the exact storyline, while some teased Marvel for tweaking original comics to suit their taste.

Secret Invasion, the comic, was written by Brian Michael Bendis and set post the Kree–Skrull War. It dealt with how the superheroes from Earth, including Iron Man, Black Bolt, Mister Fantastic, Namor, Professor Charles Xavier, and Doctor Strange, formed a group called the Illuminati, attacked and warned the Skrulls to stay away from their planet.

However, this move backfired, giving rise to a full-blown war, which formed the rest of the story. It remains to be seen whether the six-episode spy thriller series will encompass these arcs.

The first episode of Secret Invasion will release on June 21, 2023, with the remaining five dropping every week, and the finale scheduled for a July 26, 2023 premiere.
