American actress and comedian Kathy Griffin didn't seem to cope well with Donald Trump's win in the 2024 US presidential elections. Griffin expressed her frustration about the situation on social media.
In a viral video, she could be seen calling America "racist & misogynistic." She began the video by saying:
"I don’t think our beloved country, America, knows what it’s in for with a fascistic society and dictator. I’m not being hyperbolic. I’m not being dramatic."
The comedian further blamed many people she knew for choosing not to vote or feeling that "there was no difference between the candidates."
Griffin also highlighted the celebrity endorsements that occurred during this year's campaigns. She specifically mentioned Taylor Swift, claiming it would have been better if she had performed at a Harris event. Kathy Griffin continued:
"I really, really wish Taylor Swift had done an event with Vice President... She is so powerful, and it’s not fair that the weight of the world is on a pop star’s shoulder. I just did not realize how racist and misogynistic America still is."
After Griffin's remarks went viral, several netizens took to social media platforms to express their opinions. One X user tweeted:
"Y'all Carrot Top is looking ROUGH!!"
Several netizens criticized the comedian for her comments.
"I’m so out of the loop. I thought that was carrot top," an X user wrote.
"Yikes. I thought that was Carrot Top," added a tweet.
"Some if the people I see crying over the election results, I kind of understand. But carrot top? She’s soulless!" explained another netizen.
A lot of other X users too didn't agree with her stance.
"Someone please help Carrot Top," an X user tweeted.
"Carrot Top isn’t coping well with Trump’s re-election. Just kidding, it’s Kathy Griffin 😂😂," commented another one.
Kathy Griffin has been vocal critic of Donald Trump for long time
This wasn't the first time that Kathy Griffin took a dig at Donald Trump. Back in May 2017, she shared a photo of herself seemingly holding a mask that resembled the severed head of then-President Donald Trump. She faced significant backlash for that stunt as well. Since then, Griffin has made several remarks about Trump.
In 2019, she released a concert film titled Kathy Griffin: A Hell of A Story. The movie included scenes depicting how her career was negatively impacted after the controversial photoshoot related to Donald Trump. In September 2024, she told Entertainment Weekly about what she felt about Trump winning the elections.
Griffin expressed concern for several comedians who she believed would be targeted if Trump became the US President for the second time. In the interview, she added:
"He’s going to pick us off, one by one, like bowling pins, and I’m not kidding and I’m not being paranoid."
She even shared a few names who, according to her, would get targeted by Trump. The list included Jimmy Kimmel and Jon Stewart. She continued:
"I’m a D-lister, he’s not going to get to me on day one, but he’ll get to me, trust me. He’s got a list. I’ve known this guy for 25 years, maybe 30. He’s so petty that he lives for this."
As for her recent remarks and frustration about the election results, many netizens clearly disagreed with her.
