No, Jonathan Majors was not in the military, but his father was an Air Force officer at Vandenberg Military Base.

The American actor Jonathan Majors was raised among military personnel. He said he saw the same protests in the '60s, then in the '90s with Rodney King, and now again,” Jonathan explained.

The Army's recently launched advertising campaign, which was intended to boost the service's recruiting numbers, has been pulled by actor Jonathan Majors' arrest.

Majors was the voiceover talent for two commercials that served as the centerpiece of a larger media campaign that launched at the beginning of the NCAA's March Madness college basketball tournament, according to authorities. Majors was detained on charges of strangulation, assault, and harassment. Army personnel believed that their appeal to young people would be enhanced by the success of the star of the recently released films “Creed III” and “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.”

The Army's Enterprise Marketing Office said in a statement on Sunday that the Army was aware of Majors' arrest and was “deeply concerned by the allegations.” It also stated that Majors “is innocent until proven guilty; prudence dictates that we pull our ads until the investigation into these allegations is complete.” The Army's “Be All You Can Be” motto will be brought back in part by the “Overcoming Obstacles” and “Pushing Tomorrow” ads. They emphasized the Army's history as well as some of the numerous careers available to recruits. Starting in 1981, the “Be All You Can Be” catchphrase dominated its recruiting advertisements.

Before the campaign's launch in early March, a nearly two-minute preview video was made available. It showed soldiers jumping out of airplanes, fixing helicopters, navigating obstacle courses, and diving underwater. A narration said: “We bring out the best in the people who serve because America calls for nothing less.”

Jonathan had his daughter, Ella, after completing his studies at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. Given the current state of social unrest and police brutality, Majors is concentrating on providing his daughter with a thorough education in black history.

“She has to understand that it's actually not ‘Black history—it's American history,” Jonathan told People. “The way it's taught now, it's honestly the Jim Crow system of separate but equal. We'll give it one month, 12 pages in the history book... we'll talk about Harriet Tubman, Rosa Park, MLK, then we'll give you a little quiz about it. And that's it.” In addition, Majors makes an effort to reassure his daughter of her beauty and race. His daughter once came to him upset because “her hair won't fall down—her hair goes up,” he recalled in an interview with W Magazine.

Jonathan responded by saying to her, “You have a crown. That's why your hair goes up. Your hair, your crown, came from daddy, came from his mama, came from his father, came from his sister. Sometimes that crown can get you in trouble in this world, and it's not right. And some people want to take that crown from you.”
