Leigh Wood and Michael Conlan clashed in a pivotal DAZN matchup on Saturday night.

The bout was a homecoming for the British fighter as he returned to his hometown of Nottingham for the bout. The outing against Conlan was the first title defense for Wood. The 33-year-old captured the WBA (Regular) Featherweight Championship with a knockout win over Xu Can in July 2021.

The unbeaten Irishman looked set to move to 17-0 with a victory in enemy territory. Conlan is the current WBA Interim Featherweight titleholder and looked to unify the titles on Saturday night. The Olympian captured his gold back in August last year with a unanimous decision victory over T.J. Doheny.

The rest of the card featured Caoiminhin Agyarko defending his Middleweight gold against Juan Carlos Rubio. Other bouts down the ballot saw a pivotal matchup between Terri Harper vs. Yamila Abellaneda and Gary Culley taking on Miguel Vazquez.

Leigh Wood defeated Michael Conlan in a fight that is sure to be proclaimed as one of the best of the year. However, it didn't even look like it was going to be competitive early. The Irish boxer knocked the England native to the mat in round one with a thunderous shot that nearly ended the bout.

However, Wood fought on, but it wasn't easy. He was thoroughly outboxed until the latter rounds of the contest. He started to mount a comeback in the final rounds, but nobody expected the fight's dramatic conclusion. With nearly a minute to go, Wood landed a massive combination. The shots knocked his foe out of the ring and ended the bout to defend his title.

The co-main event was a battle for the WBA international Middleweight title, as the Champion Caoiminhin Agyarko took on Juan Carlos Rubio. It was an easy night at the office for the reigning titleholder. He dominated the bout and controlled the pace en route to a wide unanimous decision victory to retain the gold.
