What it is all about

As Vijender Singh prepares for his fight against Ernest Amuzu on 23rd December 2017 in Jaipur boxing fans in India are trying to evaluate whether Amuzu really poses a threat to Vijender?

Vijender Singh (9M-9W-0L)

Those who have seen Vijender boxing can tell that Vijender is a very technical boxer. Vijender's style resembles to an out-and-out boxer who tends to maintain a distance from his opponent through his jabs.

Vijender keeps his opponent away from him in a very Intelligent fashion by constantly throwing jabs in the initial rounds and thus, gets the measure of his opponent's strategy for the match.

As the game progresses, Vijender's right hand becomes more and more active. When he goes for a swing his right hand often makes contact on the opponent and this makes Vijender a very accurate puncher.

The only issue noticed so far in his pro career is his stamina. In both instances when Vijender was forced to play till the last round - against Kerry Hope and Zulpikar Maimaitiali - he was seen breathing through his mouth heavily - a clear Indication that he needs to work on his stamina.

The fight against Zulpikar Maimaitiali was very close and it could have swung either way. Vijender was having a tough time in the last rounds although he dominated in the fight most of the time.

Vijender's chin has not really been tested yet in his pro career. But, a look into his amateur career tells us that Vijender's chin is strong enough and he is not easily rocked.

In short, Vijender has all the essential qualities which can make him a world champion in future of the super middle weight category provided he keeps up the good work.

Ernest Amuzu (25M-23W-2L)

There is very little evidence available on the Internet through which we can measure Amuzu's abilities. But, he does have an impressive record of 23 wins in his total 25 fights.

One more thing to keep in mind is that Amuzu has never been knocked out and the 2 losses which he has suffered are on decision basis. So, it gives us a good reason to believe that Amuzu has good chin which will make it difficult for Vijender to knock him out.

Author's take and prediction

Amuzu is more experienced as a pro boxer but Vijender's amateur experience always helps. This fight is going to be interesting but a knockout win is not a high probability.

Vijender wins on decision basis.
