Richie McCaw will make no retirement announcement until 2015 World Cup

The New Zealand rugby team captain Richie McCaw is expected hold back any announcement related to his retirement from the International stage until the end of 2015 Rugby World Cup. He is the most capped test rugby player of all time with 142 caps to his name and a three-time winner of the world player of the year award.

The 2011 World Cup winning captain said, “I haven't made a final decision yet although I've given a reasonably strong hint. Whether I play much more past this year is pretty debatable,” as BBC reports.

The 34-year old number 8 led the ‘Invincible’ All Blacks team to straight 14 victories in 14 tests. He also expressed his desire to keep on improving till the World Cup in order to be in the best possible shape for the big event.

“You want to go out and win every game”

He added, “The reason I haven't (made any announcement) is I really wanted to play in this tournament like you would any other year as if you were going to play on. With the door still being open, that decision is going to be made later. But I want to make sure that when I turn up for training, I train to be better than I was the week before."

The All Blacks team are one of the favourites to win the World Cup and Richie wants to use this expectation in a positive manner. He added, “That type of expectation is what has driven the All Blacks to keep training hard and to give of their best. It can be rough at times, but that is just part of being an All Black. I'd hate for that to change. That's what you want. You want to go out and win every game. You want to do everything right so that you can give yourself a chance."

Along with Daniel Carter, he is seen as one of the most influential members of the All Blacks and is regarded as the best openside flanker of all time in the game’s history.

McCaw was the captain of the World Cup-winning squad in 2011 and his side will start the defence of their crown against Argentina at Wembley on Sunday.
