Asian Development 7s Rugby: Indian Women's team win bronze;Chinese Taipei take home Gold

The victorious Chinese Taipei Women’s team 

The 2016 edition of the Asia Development 7s came to a close in Chennai on Sunday with the Chinese Taipei squad emerging as the winners after beating Thailand 36-21 in the Men’s final at the Nehru Stadium.

The Women’s competition saw South Korea upstage Guam 24-19. Earlier in the semifinals, the Taipei unit made it a no-show against the Philippines, defeating them 31-12 and in other match Thailand defeated UAE 22-10 to progress through to the final.

A few Group matches were also held on Sunday and in Pool A, The Philippines side decimated Nepal 34-0 while India were also handed a big loss, by UAE who beat the hosts 38-7.

In Pool B, Chain defeated a hapless Bangladesh unit 70-0 while Thailand beat Lebanon 19-14 in one of the more tightly contested affairs of the day.

The Indian Women’s team put in a superb show in the competition, winning the bronze medal after beating Indonesia 71-0 in the 3rd/4th playoff match to finish a highly commendable 3rd in the competition.

The opening day of the event on Saturday saw both the Indian Men’s and Women’s begin on a victorious note with the former defeating Nepal 41-0 while the latter also beating the same country 36-0.
