Sonny Williams gives World Cup winner's medal to a fan

Sonny Williams has 7 wins from 7 fights from his professional boxing career

The All Blacks went on to beat the Wallabies 34-17 in the Rugby World Cup. While Daniel Carter might have highlighted throughout the match for his performance, it was Sonny Williams who was the main talking point for a lot of people.

The Chiefs man who has won the Rugby World Cup with New Zealand exhibited a gesture that has forever immortalised him in the hearts of all. After New Zealand beat Australia in the finals, a young boy who wandered onto the pitch found himself being tackled by a security personnel.

"He was only eight and the other fella was a full-on man, so it looked like he would break his ribs or something.”, said Williams, who clearly empathised with the young fan.

He suggested that young Chris Lines would have gotten carried away in his attempt to field after a momentous night for the whole nation. The sentiment that was unfortunately not shared by the guard who tackled Lines.

“I thought I'd make it a night to remember for him, rather than my medal being hanging up at home or something like that.”, said Williams.

The All Blacks player who reserves the honour of being only the second ever person to have played in the rugby union representing New Zealand after playing for the league, hugged the young boy and presented him with his own World Cup winner's medal.

It certainly must have been a dream come true for Chris Lines, who only would have wanted to go on to the pitch in hopes of hugging the 30-year-old, was treated to more than that. Williams also acknowledged the bravado of Lines in a tweet, after recognising the grit displayed by the young man to get himself on the pitch.

Williams also discouraged the behaviour exhibited by the security guard, and said that he “would have given the security guard a hiding”.

Although the gesture maybe something that has been seen with some negativity by some writers, it has grasped the attention of social media and humanitarians and people in general will not be looking to condemn this kind act.
