TARBES, France (AFP) –

Former France lock Robert Soro, known as the ‘lion of Swansea’, has died aged 90, sources close to him revealed on Sunday.
Soro, who was capped 20 times between 1945 and 1949, was given the nickname after a towering performance against the Welsh in Swansea, where on a snow-covered pitch he inspired his side to their first ever win over their hosts in Wales.
Soro, who formed a formidable second row partnership with Bordeaux’s Alban Moga, also featured in a French club championship final for his club FC Lourdes where they lost 7-3 to Agen in 1945.
