The British and Irish Lions will head into the second Test against Australia with a spring in their step.
They thrashed Melbourne Rebels 35-0 in their last midweek Tour match.
Damien Hill, Melbourne Rebels head coach:
“Playing orthodox rugby against a representative team like the Lions, you’re playing to their strengths really. So we put a few things in their to change things up. They didn’t all come off, but really added a bit of excitement to our preparation and it was good the players all got involved in it.”
Gareth Delve, Melbourne Rebels captain:
“You know a little bit of a shame not to get on the board against them, but a great occasion you know all those things we tried was always going to be a bit hit and miss, but you know great to get out there.”
Warren Gatland, British and Irish Lions head coach:
“For me the pleasing thing was the spirit that was displayed. You know that really came out today, how good these guys have been both on and off the field in this tour. I think that was demonstrated tonight in the spirit that was displayed in not conceding any points. So we were really pleased with that performance, you know, we went into half-time and said you know we’ve probably pushed a few passes and made a few turnovers and a few errors, but they had the license to keep going and doing that because we felt that we were really close to putting in a good performance. So all in all, very positive.”
Dan Lydiate, British and Irish Lions captain:
“Some of our enthusiasm, you know, was a bit much at times. We were trying to rush things and make mistakes in the game, but you know I can’t fault the boys you know for their effort, for trying to put a marker down for the weekend. But for me it was just a massive honour for one to lead the team, but to get a winning result at the end of the day will live long in my memory.”
