Runners flag off at the 2015 Bengaluru Midnight Marathon – the 9th edition of the one-of-a-kind race

Bengaluru, 5th December 2015: The event held at KTPO Whitefield was flagged off by Brand Ambassador Padma Shri Milkha Singh. More than 11,000 runners participate to ‘RUN FOR HAPPY BENGALURU’ from 25 Countries, with more than 90,000 runners registered to concurrently participate in the event across China

Key events on the night included SBI Full Marathon, Carewel Half Marathon, Target Open 10k Run, Deloitte Women’s 10K Run, 5K IT City Fun Run, Airbus Corporate Relay, Community Relay and Airbus Corporate Relay.

The Rotary Bangalore IT Corridor (RBITC) today successfully hosted the 9th edition of the only midnight marathon in India, the SBI Bengaluru Midnight Marathon at KTPO, Whitefield to raise funds for supporting charitable causes to improve health, education, infrastructure, social welfare and rural enlistment projects with a strong focus on Child and Women’s Development. The Full Marathon was flagged off at 12:00 am and runners from more than 25 countries and 24 states in India participated.

The IX SBI Bengaluru Midnight Marathon, a member of the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS-IAAF) saw enthusiastic participation from over 11,000 runners. The winner of the Full Marathon was Mesfen Melse Balcha from Ethiopia with a timing of 2 hours and 23 minutes, while the Half Marathon was won by Mikyias, again from Ethiopia, who completed the race in just a little over 32 minutes.

For the first time ever in India, BMM partnered with Codoon and Blast Running to offer an opportunity for Chinese citizens to participate in the marathon remotely. The 90,000+ participants who completed the marathon in China will receive a certificate and medals from SBI BMM 2015 team.

The event also witnessed performances from two bands, Agam and Parvaaz. Magic shows, a flea market, dholaks and food stalls kept the runners and the visitors energized through the night. The IX SBI BMM also partnered with Waste Wise Trust, Carewel and Whitefield Rising to ensure that all the garbage generated during the event was segregated, keeping in line with the efforts of the BBMP to effectively manage the waste that is produced.
