Asics GEL Nimbus 18 Review: Price, specifications and everything you need to know

Asics’s Nimbus series is one of the softest running shoes in the industry today. The Nimbus has been in the market for quite some time now. The eighteenth iteration of the Nimbus series made its way into India recently.

Nimbus 17 was a class-apart; it had great amounts of cushioning. That was not the only highlight of Nimbus 17; the cushioning was responsive too. It had a great balance. We all expect the same even with the Nimbus 18.

Can the Nimbus 18 live up to its expectations?

Short answer: Yes.

Just like Nimbus 17, this running shoe delivers a snug fit. It adapts really well and gives you out-of-the-box comfort. A size nine men’s shoe weighs around 321g. This shoe is heavy, just like Nimbus 17. Nimbus 17 weighed around 324g. Nimbus 18 is a neutral running shoe that is ideal for road running. You may not experience a lot of ground feel with this running shoe because of the GEL cushioning system.

The design is nothing out of the ordinary. Nimbus 18 looks like any other Asics running shoe. Asics did not make any major design changes. Even with the similar design, these shoes look stunning.

The upper is made of an engineered mesh that is highly breathable. The mesh is seamless; you shall experience an irritation free environment. The FluidFit technology in the upper ensures a customized fit. A ComforDry sock-liner increases the cushioning on the underside of the foot. Not only that, it has anti-bacterial properties that will reduce odor and moisture (we all like dry feet!). Independently placed eyelets disperse lace tension. The comfort levels are great with this running shoe.

We see Asics’s iconic GEL cushioning system in the midsole area. Asics introduced the GEL technology in both the forefoot and the rearfoot area. This silicone-based material offers responsive cushioning. Shock absorption capability is very high. With Nimbus 18, you will feel like you are walking on the clouds for this shoe’s cushioning is unparalleled. For better torsional rigidity, Asics introduced a Guidance Trusstic System with this Nimbus 18 (this technology is becoming a standard in Asics running shoes). Solyte foam in the forefoot area is gender specific. This offers additional comfort. FluidRide technology delivers responsiveness to the cushioning system. The durability is also improved with this update.

On the outsole, we see ASICS High Abrasion Rubber (AHAR) in the heel area. This carbon compound offers exceptional durability. Take proper care and this shoe should last for miles. For better flexibility, Asics introduced DuraSponge material in the forefoot area. This blown AHAR compound also offers responsive cushioning.

Overall, if you are looking for a well-cushioned running shoe, your search ends with the Nimbus 18. Performance is great on flat surfaces such as roads and tracks. Pronation control is decent and is ideal for neutral pronators. Even if the shoe is expensive, it is worth every penny for it offers high durability.
