Bengaluru 10K Challenge is just around the corner: Have you laced up yet?

Participants at a mock run-through of the Bengaluru 10k challenge

The first edition of the Bengaluru 10K challenge debuts on 12th July 2015 at NICE Road Bangalore.

A quick glance at the running calendar shows that weekends are packed with events of every scale, but this event comes with a difference.

In true democratic fashion, this is an event organized by runners for runners. This event has been a labour of love, sweat and toil. With a vision of hosting world class events, the promoter and race director Nagaraj Adiga is an ultra-marathoner who has participated in various marathons across the world to pick up the best practices and incorporate them into his races.

“We need to raise the bar and create properties which become destination events. Bangalore is a paradise for runners, and it is only fair that we do our city justice by creating a culture and lifestyle that promotes the beauty of our city. We want people from across the nation to come and enjoy the weather and hospitality of Bangaloreans. We want to make this an event everyone marks on their running calendar each year,” says Adiga.

With an expectation of over 7500 participants, this promises to be a fun-filled extravaganza that the participants will revel in. With increasing registration prices in every event, this event prides itself in the value that it provides its participants. At Rs.550/- for the 10k timed event and Rs. 450/- for the timed 5K event, a participant enjoys a phenomenal race.

“Our aim is to spoil runners and all those people who have woken up early in the morning to get their workout in. Everyone out there is a winner and we will be rewarding everyone with the experience. If we have managed to inspire you to come out and own the streets, we consider our job to be well done” says TimTim Sharma, winner of the women’s amateur category SCMM 2014 and brand ambassador of the Bengaluru 10K Challenge.

The race fee includes an Event Day t-shirt, timing chip, a finisher’s medal, timing certificate and a piping hot breakfast. For those who do not like to be bogged down with timings and would like to run purely for the joy of it and to give back to society, there is also the Charity 5K run, charged at Rs. 250/- a head.

In another first, this event has spearheaded the Green initiative. In an effort to promote health and fitness while respecting the environment, the event organisers have put in some commendable measures.

There will be no disposable glasses on the route. To minimize littering, only reusable glasses will be utilized to provide hydration for the participants.

In addition, only reusable plates and steel glasses will be used for breakfast and coffee. Finally, all food waste is segregated, and this waste is sent to piggeries.

For those who like a bit of a lure, the prize for this event is a whopping 11 Lakhs, spread over 40 categories – so if you are fast, there is a good chance that you will be walking home with a prize.

Looks like this will be an event that participants will revel in. The last date for registrations is 30th June 2015.
