Equal prize for men, women in Mawana Marathon

Taking a strong stand for equality in society, Mawana Sugars Indian Open Marathon Thursday announced that there will be equal prize money for men and women participating in the race.

The marathon, one of the oldest national sports event, will flag off on Feb 17 from the India Gate. The route will run through some of the capital city’s important landmarks before it winds its way back to the India Gate for the finish.

The Mawana Sugars Indian Open Marathon is held under the aegis of the Athletic Federation of India (AFI) with only Indian runners allowed to participate.

The winner’s prize money is Rs.2.5 lakh. The total prize money is Rs.15 lakh.

In addition to runners from Delhi Police, the Indian Army, Air Force and para-military forces, this year corporate companies and colleges are being encouraged to send in their teams of runners.
