Panaji, Feb 18 (IANS): Goa will host India’s first timed beach run on February 23, including a half marathon.

The Nautica Goa Beach 2014 run will be held on the southern Goa coastal belt which has popular beaches like Colva, Utorda, Betalbatim, Majorda and Arrosim.

“This is India’s first timed beach run which is being held in Goa,” Vasco Football Club president Nitin Bandekar said Tuesday.

Bandekar said the event was aimed at drilling in the importance of running and fitness in Goa as well as creating awareness about keeping the state’s beaches and marine environment clean.

“We will also have a workshop by TERI (The Energy Research Institute) underlining the importance of keeping our beaches and seas litter-free.”

The beach run will feature a 21.1 km half marathon, a 10 km run and a 5 km fun beach frolic segment.
