Guts, grit, glory: Your guide to Devils Circuit, India's first ever obstacle race

An exciting, adrenaline-packed rush, Devils Circuit is not your run-of-the-mill track just for athletes, or a boot camp to help you get in shape. Fitness doesn’t have to mean a run or a walk alone, down a boring, fixed route – and that is where Devils Circuit comes in!

The first of its kind in the country, the Devils Circuit, sponsored by Maruti Suzuki, is a 5km long obstacle course that includes military-style hurdles and loads of excitement. Participants can choose to compete, or run the entire course untimed just to participate. It’s the big daddy of sportainment in India, and it’s coming to 6 cities this year.

The event sees a massive turnout each year, with more than 15,000 people participating in both competitive and non-competitive series, and the organisers expect double the participation this year. Despite its rigorous nature though, the event is not just a test of participants’ physical ability. It requires immense mental tenacity to get through the obstacles in the Devils Circuit.

Participants face the elements to get fighting, and fighting fit! They navigate through obstacles in hot, arid conditions, with temperatures going up to 36C on rocky, uneven terrain. Some of the obstacles include barbed wire fencing, ice pools, nets and thick slush as they compete with others to reach the finish line.

Among the obstacles at the course is a 4-foot deep pool filled with ice and water, which contestants must jump through after scaling a rope wall and crawling through slush.

Designed to encourage team activity and cooperation, participants compete individually or, in other formats, in teams, to see who can reach the finish line quickest.

You don’t have to compete alone at Devils Circuit; it promises to be a fun activity for groups of friends, families, even colleagues. And if you don’t have friends to go with, you can make new ones at the event, as many participants have attested to.

All that said, it is not all cutthroat competition. Despite being in a race to the finish line, contestants help each other reach the finish line, forming a unique camaraderie. Participants have described building new friendships at the track as they help competitors up and down and through obstacles.

Getting fit whilst facing the elements promises to be a fun, different way to involve oneself in fitness. Whether you’re a trained athlete or an amateur looking to have some fun as you exercise, Devils Circuit tests you to the limit while ensuring you have fun all the way!

“It’s not about how good or bad you are, it’s all about participation, about getting in that mindset,” said a participant.

It isn’t all about obstacles though. At the end of the entire task, all competitors are treated to a fun party at the circuit, complete with a celebratory food and drinks. There’s a DJ, flash mobs, performances from professional dancers – and the participants can dance too. There’s also tall, cool beer awaiting each and every runner at the finish.

The party atmosphere adds to the thrill that the venue already promises, and if you’re looking to get fit and test your physical limits while having as much fun as you possibly can, then Devils Circuit is definitely for you!

Registrations are now open for India’s only event that does not just challenge fitness but is also a true test of participants’ mental and physical strength.
