HCG Pinkathon on Thursday announced that 10,000 registrations had been completed for the year by the multi-city 10km Pinkathon women’s run after registrations for the Mumbai edition were opened.

Bollywood actress Bipasha Basu was present at the event in Mumbai yesterday to extend her support for the second year in succession. The event in Mumbai will be held on December 15, 2013 and registrations for the same are now open.

Event Ambassador Gul Panag, a former Miss India and fitness enthusiast officially launched registrations yesterday for participants from across the country.

The international running event focuses on promoting women’s health and fitness and is primarily concerned with spreading awareness about breast cancer in the country, an area where India is deemed to be behind the rest of the world.

HCG Pinkathon sees the run as a means to promoting the cause as well as raising funds to help combat the ailment. There are also a whole host of activities that the organizers have planned on social media as well as on-ground events to help boost the reach of their message.

Director of Healthcare Services, HCG, Dinesh Madhavan said, “Since its inception HCG, The Specialist in Cancer Care has been spearheading the fight against cancer. The HCG Pinkathon, an International Women’s run is part of our ongoing effort to create awareness and educate woman on cancer. One in 22 women are effected by breast cancer in India, we hope an event like this would further reiterate the fact that greater awareness is required and the first step in the fight against cancer is to stay fit,” said Madhavan.

As mentioned earlier, Bipasha Basu was present to throw her support behind the Mumbai’s second ‘HCG Pinkathon – Run to Lead’.

“It gives me immense pride and joy to join 10,000 women in support of a noble endeavour like HCG Pinkathon for the second year. I believe each of us needs to be conscious and watchful against a condition like breast cancer all the time. HCG Pinkathon is doing something praiseworthy when it comes to spreading awareness and educating women about causes and prevention through the run. I am looking forward to supporting the cause and congratulate Mumbaikars for doing the same,” said Bipasha.

Concept promoter Milind Soman at the event with Bipasha Basu

Milind Soman, whose Maximus MICE and Media Solutions Private Limited, is one of the key promoters of the concept in India had this to say on the occasion: “Mumbai is the city where HCG Pinkathon first began and I am glad that 10,000 pink sisters have come forward to support the run this year. We thank each of them for the stand they are taking and are confident that the great city will support the cause with passion and enthusiasm. The need is tremendous and making a positive difference to the way women understands the condition in India gives us a sense of fulfillment and happiness.”
