Nirmal Beura, an Indian charity worker, is set to fly close to 7,000 miles to take part in the Great North Run this weekend.

Beura is scheduled to take part in the event on September 15, which is said to be the world’s biggest half-marathon, in order to raise awareness about his employers, Tradicraft India, reports the Northern Echo.

Nirmal Beura is a senior programme manager based out of Hyderabad, working for the said company. The organization is said to be assisting the poor of the country in improving their lives. Their nature of work is wide-ranging, and includes helping out small-time farmers and providing vocational skills training to women.

“I’ll be running with other Traidcraft staff and supporters and I’m looking forward to finishing in less than one hour 40 minutes.”

“To know that Traidcraft supporters are behind me will really make all the difference and get me to the finish line.” said Mr. Beura.

Abi Knowles, Traidcraft’s community and events fundraiser, said: “We’re delighted to have Nirmal with us and even more delighted that he’s set himself the challenge of running in the Great North Run.”

“We wish him every success and hope that people will support him in his challenge.”

The Great North Run is part of a great weekend of sport in the North East of England, which includes the Bupa Junior & Mini Great North Run, Bupa Great North 5k and the Great North CityGames
