India’s first ever timed beach run sees participation from over 600 marathoners

Panaji, February 23rd, 2014: Nautica, in association with Vasco Sports Club, presented India’s first ever timed ‘Half Beach Marathon’ at Colva Beach, Goa. The Nautica Goa Beach Run was a one-of-a-kind run set along a picturesque landscape of soft white sands and coral blue waters. Over 600 participants ran along the sea-line of the beautiful South Goa beaches.

Mr. David Laprotica was declared the winner of the 21 km (Half Marathon) race, winning a cash prize of Rs. 20,000, while Mr. Soji Mathew bagged the second place winning a cash prize of Rs. 15,000. Not far behind was Mr. Prakash Dhasade who won Rs. 10,000, in the 10 km category. In total around Rs. 3,00,000 was given away as cash prizes for women and men across Open, Indian, Goan, Veteran and Senior Veteran categories.

Mr. Sumit Dhingra, Business Head of Nautica said, “This is the Nautica brand’s first association with the Goa Beach Run and the response has been great. The run saw participation from people across the country. The Nautica brand’s connection to water made the event a perfect match. We look forward to continuing our journey towards making this a much bigger and prominent event in the years to come.”

Mr. Nitin Bandekar, president of the Vasco Sports Club said, “Vasco Sports Club would like to thank each and every participant, the sponsors and all the cooperation received from the Government of Goa, who have extended their full hearted support in making the first Nautica Goa Beach run held on 23rd February a whopping success. We are also thankful to the support received from Drishti without which this event would not have been possible on the beach. We look forward to organizing the second edition of the beach run next year.”

The run culminated with all marathoners being entertained by DJ Usman, along with a Zumba performance. Contestants also enjoyed an interactive motivation session by Mr. Vishwas Bhamburkar, an ultra marathoner, while TERI (The Energy and Resource Initiatives) enlightened the crowd on the importance of keeping beaches and seas litter-free.
