Lavasa Hill Run: Daniel Yegon and Gladys Tarus from Kenya emerge winners

Lavasa, January 05, 2014: Lavasa Hill Run, the first of its kind hill run launched by Lavasa Corporation saw international athletes winning the top honours. Apart from the professional runners a huge number of running enthusiasts in the age group 9-70 years ran the Endurance Run (10 km) and the Dream Run (5 km).

In the 10 km Endurance Run for men, Daniel Yegon from Kenya emerged the winner with a timing of 31 min: 32 sec, Alma Yehu from Ethiopia was declared the first runner up with a timing of 32 min: 19.10 sec and Man Singh from Army Sports Institute, Pune came third with a timing of 32 min: 26.20 sec. They were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-, Rs. 50,000/- and Rs. 25,000/- respectively.

In the 10 km Endurance Run for women, Gladys Tarus from Kenya emerged the winner with a timing of 37 min: 24 sec, Asefa Dezabeh from Ethiopia was declared the first runner up with a timing of 39 min and Swati Haridas Gadhave from India with a timing of 39 min: 14.3 sec came third. They were awarded a cash prize of Rs. 1,00,000/-, Rs. 50,000/- and Rs. 25,000/- respectively. 157 women participated in the maiden Lavasa Hill Run.

Among the amateur runners, the oldest runner was Mr. Gopinathan Cherakulam (age 70 years) from Mumbai and the youngest was Master Virendra Sinh Arvin Patil (age 8 years) from Kolhapur. Both completed the 10 km Endurance Run.

The first Lavasa Hill Run was flagged off by Air Marshall K.S. Gill – AVSM, YSM, VM (G) & Mrs. Gill, the Guest of Honors and Ms. Anuradha Paraskar, Sr. VP, Marketing and Sales, Lavasa Corporation Limited. Rear Admiral Anand Iyer & Mrs. Iyer were the Chief Guests for the Lavasa Hill Run.

The hill run provided an ideal platform for racers to bring in the year on a healthy note.

Like the Lavasa Women’s Drive which has evolved over the past few years to become India’s biggest women’s car rally, we envisage that the Lavasa Hill Run will also evolve as a premier event for running enthusiasts in the country and abroad.”
