In the men's race, Sawe demonstrated a remarkable burst of energy in the final 500 meters, propelling him to victory with a time of 27 minutes and 58.24 seconds. The Ethiopian athlete, a two-time Delhi Marathon champion, redeemed herself after a costly mistake in her previous appearance in 2019. Determined and focused, Gemechu showcased her speedwork and crossed the finish line as the undisputed champion.

Reflecting on her success, Gemechu attributed her improvement to the guidance she received from Ethiopian long-distance running legend, Haile Gebrselassie. She expressed her gratitude, stating:
