NYC Marathon preparation continues

New York - The New York marathon organisers will explore all possibilities to move the event forward despite deadly superstorm Sandy causing havoc in the city.

“The marathon has always been a special day for New Yorkers as a symbol of the vitality and resiliency of this city,” New York Road Runners (NYRR) president Mary Wittenberg said in a statement.

The marathon preparation will be met with many obstacles as Sandy shut down transportation, flooded streets and deprived many neighbourhoods of power supply, reports Xinhua.

Wittenberg said the city would strive to move the Nov 4 event forward.

“NYRR continues to move ahead with its planning and preparation. We will keep all options open with regard to making any accommodations and adjustments necessary to race day and race weekend events,” he said in the statement.

Organisers were expecting nearly 50,000 runners before the storm hit. They have no idea how many will actually make it to start the race.
